Paver Patio Calculator
Add rectangles and circles for your patio, pick paver size and pattern. The page outputs pavers to buy, base gravel and sand tonnage, polymeric sand bags, edge restraint, and installed cost.
How it works
Behind the numbers
Area comes first. Add each section as a rectangle or circle; the calculator sums them, so L-shapes and curved patios work as multiple pieces. Pattern selection sets the waste rate automatically instead of asking you to guess.
The material list covers the full job: pavers rounded up to whole units, base gravel with compaction allowance, 1 in of bedding sand, polymeric sand bags, and edge restraint from perimeters (or your manual length). Everything converts to the units suppliers sell in.
Cost shows paver material from your per-unit price plus installed ranges for three material tiers, so you can compare concrete against natural stone on the same layout before calling a contractor.
FAQ
Questions, answered
How many pavers do I need?
Divide total square feet by one paver's square feet, then add pattern waste: 5% for running bond, about 12% for herringbone, 17% for circular layouts. A 200 sq ft patio in 4x8 pavers on herringbone needs roughly 1,000 pavers.
How much base gravel goes under pavers?
Plan 4-6 in of compacted base for walkways, 6-8 in for driveways. The calculator converts your area and depth to cubic yards with a 20% compaction allowance, then to tons.
How many bags of polymeric sand do I need?
One 50 lb bag covers about 70 sq ft of joints. The calculator divides your area and rounds up to whole bags.
What does a paver patio cost installed?
2026 ranges: concrete pavers $12-30, clay brick $15-35, natural stone $25-50 per square foot installed. Base prep, pattern complexity, and local labor move the final number.
