How it works

Behind the numbers

01

Shoe sizes are four different rulers for the same foot, and none of them convert with clean arithmetic. The one reliable bridge is foot length in centimeters, which is also exactly what the Japanese size means. Every row in this converter's chart is one measured foot length written out in US, UK, EU, and JP, drawn from widely published manufacturer charts.

02

You can start from either end. Enter your foot length in centimeters to find the closest listed size in all four systems, or enter a size you already wear and read across to the rest. When a value lands between two rows, the converter picks the nearest one and says so, because guessing silently would be worse than rounding openly.

03

Kids get their own table because children's sizes run on a separate scale: toddler C sizes, then youth Y sizes, before merging into adult numbering. The half-size note matters most here and for runners: when you fall between sizes, size up for running shoes and growing feet, and size down for snug leather shoes. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type leaves the page.

FAQ

Questions, answered

How do I measure my foot for shoe size?

Stand on a piece of paper in the socks you plan to wear, late in the day when feet are largest. Mark the heel and the tip of your longest toe, then measure between the marks in centimeters. Measure both feet and use the larger number. Enter that length above and the converter finds the closest size in US, UK, EU, and JP.

Why do different size charts disagree?

Because brands cut lasts differently and round conversions their own way. A US men's 9.5 is 27 cm on most charts and 26.7 on some; EU equivalents drift by half a point between makers. The charts here use the most widely published values, but the brand's own size chart always wins. When it conflicts with this page, trust the brand.

What should I do if I am between sizes?

It depends on the shoe. Size up for running shoes, hiking boots, and anything a child will grow into, since feet swell with activity. Size down for leather dress shoes and loafers, which stretch with wear. If only one foot is between sizes, fit the larger foot. Width matters too: this page covers length only.

Do kids' shoe sizes work the same as adults'?

No, kids run on their own scale, which is why so many converters skip them. Toddler sizes are marked C and youth sizes Y; the numbers restart instead of continuing the adult sequence. The kids table above covers both, anchored to foot length in centimeters like the adult tables. Measure a child's foot every few months, because growth spurts skip sizes.
